Book Club to meet on May 13
The Cook Area Book Club will meet next on May 13 at 12:30 in The Friends of the Arts Gallery in Cook. Members are asked to please bring a book title to recommend for the upcoming year, as titles for 2025-26 will be selected.
Donate old eyeglasses
The Cook Lions Club will take old eyeglasses for the needy. Glasses may be dropped off at Scenic Rivers Cook Medical Clinic, Cook Hospital, North Star Credit Union, and First National Bank.

Woman dies in single vehicle crash near Orr
An early Monday morning car crash on Highway 53 near King Road in Orr claimed the life of 40-year-old Amy Lynn Johnson of Virginia, Minn. The crash happened around 1:30 a.m.
Warm and dry may not be the May we want
In my nearly 40 years at Channel 6, we've gone through a lot of names. It was Metro News 6 when I first started, and went to Stereo 6 when that was all the rage, then to Channel 6 News, KBJR News, Northland's News Center, NBC 6, and currently Northern News Now. A few minutes ago, while writing the head-line to this article, I wrote Northland's News Center instead of Northern News Now. Just a flashback moment I guess.
