What a beautiful weekend… not too hot and the bugs are still OK, but they did start to come out a bit. I was planting my flowerpots this weekend and they were out, but they were manageable. But you know they will get worse when we get some rain. But I will take it as long as we can. The bugs are on the low side, which is a bonus for now.
Finndians topic at June 3 meeting
Lyz Jaakola, musician and educator who teaches at the college in Cloquet, is an enrolled member of the Fond du Lac band of Ojibway. She will present a program on Finndians at the meeting of Finnish Americans and Friends at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, at Grace Lutheran Church, 4010 9th Ave. W., Hibbing. Anyone interested in this topic is invited.
St. Louis County declares state of local emergency, state of local disaster
St. Louis County Board Chair Annie Harala has signed a Declaration of State of Local Emergency and State of Local Disaster for St. Louis County. The declaration comes eight days after the Camp House fire began, and one week after the Jenkins Creek, and Munger Shaw fires began burning. The three wildfires have burned more than 30,000 acres of land in St. Louis County and destroyed more than 150 structures.
Red Flag Warning issued for extreme fire risk
The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for several counties in northern Minnesota from noon until 9 p.m. May 20, due to extreme fire risk conditions.

Veterans and supporters urged to sign up for John Werner 5K race to fund Veterans Memorial Hall
People who served in the military and the people who support them are urged to come to the border of Duluth and Rice Lake, Minn., in June to run a race that helps pay for the upkeep of Veterans Memorial Hall. The race is called the John Werner Memorial 5K.
