Soundtrack of Life
Song reaches us in every aspect of life. It soothes a child to sleep or motivates an army into battle. It celebrates good times yet comforts us as we mourn. Research shows music reduces stress and improves memory. It decreases anxiety and boosts creativity. Songs sung together even unite us in a sense of common brotherhood – not an easy thing to do nowadays. It’s unlikely there is a pill that can do all these things.

Fairing Well
We found ourselves tooling down the road at 75 mph in a 65 mph zone while getting passed by motorists doing 85 mph. Such is life in the fast lane down in Minnesota’s Twin Cities. I have to assume everybody there is late for something – late for work, late for supper, or late for the big game. It’s all a bit much given my wife and I could pull off a game of pickle ball between occasional cars going by on State Highway 73 that runs in front of our home. Yeah, it’s pretty quiet out there. But beyond the high-speed lane changes , tailgaters, and missed exit ramps, lies the Minnesota State Fair and by golly, we intended to get there.

Garden Goodness
Our vegetable garden, like the old gray mare, ain’t what she used to be. The problem is encroaching shade from nearby maple trees that I cannot bring myself to cut down.. So, the garden must duke it out with the shade and we’re satisfied with whatever results. The result this year has been a surprising and most appreciated bounty of cucumber. So, rather than reinvent the wheel, I offer again, “In Season” from the book, “She Won’t Mow the Daisies” – edited for brevity.
How a well-rounded education benefits students
Academic environments have undergone quite a change over the last several decades. Technological advancements have changed the way educators teach and how students learn, but there’s also been a notable shift in what students are learning.
