Fishing with Z

Week #9 July 7-14, 2025 Water temp: 70-74
The dog days of summer are here….
This week, as history will show, was the toughest week of fishing of the season! I’m not going to lie and say how great it was when it simply wasn’t. We are on a lot of fish but getting them to bite is not easy. Yes I’m sure guys are loading the boat somewhere somehow, but anybody that knows the east end of Vermilion in mid July knows what I’m talking about. But, with that being said, better days are ahead and they are coming quickly!
The week started very slow. Only a couple walleyes per trip on Lindy rigs with whatever bait you wanted to use. Crawlers, leeches, and minnows all caught fish. But only a couple. This morning (7/14) was better. We caught a few more fish, had a few more bites, and the spots are starting to load up for the post bug hatch craziness that will start in the next 5-7 days.
Sand flats and humps have been where all of our fish are. No secret on the east end as each spot is loaded with boats daily. 15-24’ has been the best depth range as far as bites and just seeing fish on the graphs. Dragging Lindy’s is how we are getting all of our bites, speed varies from spot to spot. Some spots .4-.6 produces better and other spots .2 and barely moving has gotten more bites.
Low light hours are huge right now so getting out early and staying out late is the name of the game. Capitalize on those high percentage hours!
As we progress through summer, trips are starting to get harder to get! If you want to get out, let me know! July is closing in on fully booked but I still have plenty of openings at the end of the month and August is slowly filling in! We are a couple of weeks away from the best and most consistent bite of the entire year. This year has been a record year so far for walleyes and I imagine that it’s only going to get better as we get into the end of July and move onto leadcore! Give me a call or text anytime to book a trip, (218) 404-9200 and let’s go make some memories!!
As always, tight lines!
