Cook VFW Post 1757 needs your help

The VFW in Cook was commissioned on April 30, 1939, by local veterans having served in a foreign war. Some of these brave men have familiar names: Aune, Hannine, Erickson, Arden, Beatty, Ongalo, Lofgren, Karni, Johnson. They served their country proudly and bravely, organized a post to gather and share with comrades the horrors and valiant things they had endured.

The club expanded over the years, with a larger building to help support veterans and local needs. Everyone has seen the Honor Guard march in parades, do final salutes for fallen comrades, flag burning ceremonies, Color Bearers for school events, etc.

A kitchen was added to help raise money to make donations to local projects. Each year two scholarships are awarded a graduating senior, donations to Halloween and Easter gatherings, Christmas toys, community dinners, organizations in need at the school, parks, food shelf, etc. Many behind the scenes activities working with other organizations for community events.

The building has been donated for all kinds of fund raisers, benefits, celebrations of life, weddings, graduation, birthday and retirement parties.

The VFW is an organization of military personnel who put their lives on the line for your freedom at one time when the call for duty went out. They continue to provide assistance, aid, and support for fellow veterans and the surrounding community, most of it without recognition.

The VFW building is in need of a new roof. It is a very costly repair, at the present time and economy we cannot afford. We are asking for donations to help with this project. Unfortunately, two years ago, the VFW lost almost all of the monetary assets we had and were near closing. Slowly, with the generous support of the people in this area continuing to patronize the club, bingo and burger night, we have managed to survive, but are still in a hardship.

Any financial donations made for the new roof are greatly appreciated with a heartfelt thank you from the brave men and women who served and continue to serve the Cook area.
