Cabin fire in Greenwood Township
On May 8 at 3:08 p.m., the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 4500 Block of Serenity Point Road in Greenwood Township, due to a reported structure fire. While emergency services were responding, it was learned that the structure was fully engulfed and spreading to the nearby woods.
Once on scene, it was determined that a small campfire had spread and started the cabin on fire and then the surrounding woods. Multiple fire departments responded and were able to contain the fire so that no other property was lost. There were no injuries associated with this incident.
The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind citizens that the fire danger is high and to follow MN DNR recommendations for campfires.
The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Greenwood Fire Dept., Breitung Fire Dept., Tower Fire Dept., Tower Ambulance Service, the MN DNR, and the U.S. Forest Service.
