It was a beautiful weekend for the third annual Poker Run sponsored by Melissa Rabas to raise money for our local Buyck Fire Department. All local businesses are involved to help raise the money. They all donated great prizes for the raffle and silent auction items. Melissa is the organizer to get this off the ground and lots of local people help out. Fire department personnel also help during this big event. There was a great turnout. I will try to get a count of how much was raised by next week. The winners of the Poker Run were: 1st Place $800 – Nikki Vanos, Four of a kind Qs; 2nd Place $500 – Roy Coleman, Four of a kind 7s; 3rd Place $300 – Michelle Arvila, Full House Qs over 8s.

Dave Borchert came up to help Dan Hoffman celebrate his birthday. They were out hunting and visiting. It sounded like they got a few birds and had a good time.

This coming weekend is MEA weekend so I’m sure there will be lots of people out and about hunting with their kiddos since school is out for the teacher convention. I’m sure there will be lots of extra people in the area in their blaze orange. I’m also sure there will be a few hunters here working on their hunting stands or just out checking for signs of deer.

I’m still canning as my tomatoes are ripening after I picked them green out of the garden. This was a heck of a season for a garden this year so I take as much as I can. You never know what next spring will bring for the next growing season. But I am running out of canning jars so I will have to buy more this week.
