The Orr High School Class of 1970 gathered the second weekend of August to celebrate its 55th reunion.

At the time, the Class of 1970 was the largest graduating class in Orr’s history, with 40 students. The group’s roots, however, stretched well beyond the city limits. Their seventh-grade class of 53 drew students from surrounding communities: Gheen, Greaney, and Silverdale to the southwest; Nett Lake to the west; Cusson, Ash Lake, Ash River, and Kabetogama to the north; and Myrtle Lake, Buyck, and Crane Lake to the east. Coming from diverse cultural backgrounds, the parents of these students instilled a strong work ethic that shaped the class’s future. Over time, the group became One—proudly known as the Orr Braves, Class of 1970, Best of the Best!!

The reunion weekend began Friday evening at a local establishment near Britt, Minnesota. Friends enjoyed dinner together and live music, with several classmates showcasing their musical talents. It was a warm, intimate start to the weekend filled with renewed friendships and lively conversation.

On Saturday afternoon, classmates gathered on the Ash River Trail for a social hour, sharing stories, laughter, and memories. Later, 27 attendees sat down for dinner together, continuing to reconnect over recent experiences and lifelong bonds. The evening carried on with karaoke, dancing, and plenty of laughter.

The celebration continued Sunday morning with a scenic water cruise to historic Kettle Falls. The weather was perfect as Captain John “Sammie” Kulas piloted one pontoon and Dan “the Kabetogama Kid” Kiland steered another. Classmates and spouses enjoyed the breathtaking vistas of Namakan Lake, snapping photos and revisiting the history of these pristine northern waters..

It was a weekend of laughter, music, and cherished memories—an unforgettable celebration of lifelong friendships and the enduring bond of the Orr Braves, Class of 1970.

The Orr High School Class of 1970 extends heartfelt thanks to the classmates who organized this memorable occasion, including Veronica, Jane, Jim, and many others who contributed their time and effort.
