The NWFA Gallery on River St. is open from 10 to 4 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 9 to 1 on Saturdays (during Farmers Market). Don’t miss this fantastic show!
Meet Sue at a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at NWFA Gallery, 210 S. River St. located adjacent to Dream Weaver Salon.
Sue’s stunning thoughtful works depict a series of story-telling paintings of sister figures side by side, intertwined and overlapping using textural and colorful layers, bold marks and interesting shapes.
In Sue own words, “I’ve found painting powerful female figures has been healing. Portraying women who have come before us and those today, from all cultures, speaks to me through my paintings and fills me with hope that we will heal, repair and unite our sisterhood. We need to stand near each other, we must work to collaborate, lift each other up, unite efforts, show strength in numbers, share a common voice, be kind, empathetic and loyal in order for all women to live the best life they deserve socioeconomically and politically.”

Workshop artists, be aware that Sue is teaching a one day workshop to be held at Northwoods Friend of the Arts Gallery on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Using acrylic paint and mixed media students will create “Sisterhood Storytelling Images” by painting figures and interesting backgrounds on a 14 by 14 inch canvas. Textured layers of color, shapes and bold marks to portray supportive female figures from life or those who have come before us. The textures will be created with the acrylic paint, collage papers, markers and oil pastels. Supplies are included in the cost of the class. Students go home with a meaningful painting. The class size is limited to 8-10 students. Call Alberta at 218 666-2153 to register for the class.
Sue’s love of nature, color, people and whimsy are often captured in her work. She enjoys telling a story in her artwork which is often as she see things or dreams of how things should be rather than the realistic narrative. Locally, regionally and internationally, she has been invited to exhibit her work and is represented in several galleries including NWFA Gallery in Cook.
