The Cook Area Book Club will meet next on Aug. 12 at 1 p.m. at the Friends of the Arts Gallery in Cook. The book for discussion will be “The Narrowboat Summer” by Anne Youngson.

“The Narrowboat Summer” tells the tale of two women, strangers to each other, who agree to take a third woman’s Narrowboat and unruly dog down a series of English canals to London. Neither of them have ever even been on a boat, let alone navigate one, on a summer’s long cruise. One has lost her job and the other has left her life behind. What could possibly go wrong? In the course of this journey they learn much about canal cruising, the people who live and cruise the canals, and even more about themselves.

The book for discussion in September will be “The Small and the Mighty” by Sharon McMahon.
