The Sheriff’s Office has taken numerous calls from citizens reporting a new scam. The scammers are sending invoices via email that claim to be from St. Louis County Planning and Zoning. The invoices demand money be wired to various locations. The Sheriff’s Office has determined these emails and invoices are fraudulent. In addition, St. Louis County WILL NEVER ask that money be wired, sent via gift cards, or paid in any other unorthodox manner.

The Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone that these types of scams are becoming more common. DO NOT send any money, make any kind of financial payment or provide any personal or financial information to anyone who contacts you through an unsolicited email, text message, computer notification or phone call. These scammers will frequently use threats and coercion to gain compliance. You should immediately cease communications and report the incident to local law enforcement, who will give you further guidance.
