City of Orr accepts Unorganized Township Fire Protection Contract
by A.J. Shuster
In a speedy Orr City Council meeting on June 9, approval was given for turning back matured CDs for more time. The two are for $200,000 and $330,000. One will now be extended for three months and the other for nine months at a rate of 4.35 percent.
Also accepted was the St. Louis County 2026 Unorganized Township Fire Protection Contract in the amount of $14,103. This covers townships 63-19, part of 63-21, and 66-20.
Passed was a wording change on the resolution passed last month to raise water charges by 5 percent. Language was cleaned up to eliminate “annual” raises in rates.
Okayed was purchase of matching on-call shirts for Ambulance Service members, enough for each to have two, and have some in inventory for future workers. Also passed were additional Ambulance policies.
The Liquor Store will soon have their request for merchandise for sale – hats and shirts — with a logo promoting Orr Muni and fishing.
The Airport will be allowed to purchase over 3,500 gallons of 100LL fuel. This is to meet the growing use of the airport, as well as to be prepared for the August Fly-In.
In department news, Ambulance staff completed one training course on June 1 and will begin another area of training on July 21. A new driver needs to finish CPR training and then will be qualified. A visit from a Minnesota Public Safety representative will be coming soon.
